Detailed information on 1990 Set of Three Mart Stam for Thonet Bauhaus Dining Chairs in Oak
Listed for sale is a set of three cantilever dining chairs with arms, produced by Thonet and presumed to be designed by Mart Stam. Thonet is a historically important furniture company, which had originally produced a number of innovative designs derived from the Bauhaus. This set was acquired from a Syracuse, New York estate. The chairs have chromed steel frames with oak-veneered plywood seat, back, and arms. Many of the tubular designs of this nature have been attributed to either Marcel Breuer or Mart Stam. Given the 1990 production date and longer term production of Stam works through Thonet, it is presumed that this is a Stam design. Condition of the chairs overall is very good, though they do show some signs of wear and use. See photos. The chairs are marked and guaranteed as Thonet pieces.
The chairs measures 32.5 inches tall by 22 inches deep and 20 inches wide.
